Martin Pernar

Dr Martin Pernar joined Iqarus in June 2021 as Chief Medical Officer and has direct medical oversight of all our projects, including all aspects of our expeditionary R2 capabilities. Dr Martin Pernar is a consultant orthopaedic trauma surgeon, who has had a distinguished military and military medical career. Embarking on a military medical career saw him specialise in Pre-hospital Trauma Care, Medical/Aeromedical Evacuation, Damage Control Surgery/Resuscitation, Diving Medicine/Submarine Rescue, and support to Special Forces and SWAT teams. His last military engagement was serving as the Medical Director for the Swedish Royal Marines until the end of 2018, deployed as the Senior Medical Officer in Mali for the MINUSMA Swedish Contingent.

Dr Pernar has a deep understanding of what it takes to deliver medical services in the environments in which Iqarus operates, having been an embedded Medical Officer with the UN in Mali, Central African Republic, and the Balkans; and with the EU in the Gulf of Aden and Central African Republic; and with NATO in Afghanistan and Kosovo; and with several International NGOs in Yemen, Democratic Republic of Congo, South Sudan, and Central African Republic.

Originally from Sweden, Dr Pernar is a graduate the Medical School, Karolinska Institutet, Stockholm and has undertaken medical studies in Norway, Sweden, Belgium and United States, while also working as a consultant orthopaedic surgeon at public hospitals in Sweden and Norway.
