Democratic Republic of Congo: Medical Support Team

We provide accessible medical support to one of the world’s largest humanitarian and aid agencies in DRC. The mission had over 400 staff spread over 19 duty stations. Many of the stations were very remote and not supported by adequate health facilities. The 6 Mandatory Health Support Elements for this project included: Primary Health Care, Hospital Care, Mental Health Assessment Services, Mass Casualty Plan, Medical Emergency Response and Access to Pharmaceuticals and PEP Kits.

Our medical team provided:

Primary care, emergency care, stabilises and prepares patients for medical evacuation, provides medical care during transfers, and provides advice and guidance on matters relating to risks to health, including mental health first aid.

To provide accessible medical support to UNHCR staff with 6 mandatory health support elements including: primary healthcare, hospital care, mental health assessment services, mass casualty plan, medical emergency response and access to pharmaceuticals and PEP kits.

UNHCR contracted Iqarus to support its operation in DRC. One of their largest operations, with around 455 staff spread over 19 duty stations, many of which are very remote and are not supported by adequate health facilities.

A total of five staff are deployed comprising of one physician and four Paramedics/Nurses. The team provides primary healthcare during daytime hours on a 12-hour continuous basis and are prepared to manage medical emergencies, 24/7. They stabilise and prepare patients ahead of MEDEVAC, provide medical care during patient MEDEVAC transfers and give advice and guidance to UNHCR staff on matters relating to risks to health, including mental health first aid.
